When you say, “a par 3 golf course,” golfers with any talent usually take a pass. But once they hear about, or pay a visit to, the Spring Creek Golf Center, located  at W4787 Yandry Road in Whitewater Wisconsin, they remember it.

Tucked away in the rolling hills along Whitewater Creek in Cold Spring Township, Mike and Judy Majewski, have created a place for a full day of fun just a few miles from our front doorsteps.

“We welcome groups, class reunion, company parties,” says Mike Majewski. “Imagine a family reunion out here. There’s golf for whoever likes it, and a huge shaded deck for everyone else.”

But for golfers, the really amazing thing about Spring Creek is that it is set up equally for pros and amateurs.

For example, I love to golf, but I’m terrible at it.  When I have gone, its hard to enjoy it, as I’m holding up the annoyed people behind me.   I end up kicking and throwing my ball to keep up.  After a few experiences like that, I wrote golf off my list of things I want to spend time doing (outside of Wii, which for some reason I’m not too bad at).  But I could go to Spring Creek because there is a 21,000 sq. ft. putting course with 18 holes, a separate area for just chipping and putting and a 15 stall driving range.  The ‘real’ golfers have a completely separate area to hit their perfectly straight balls for miles and I wouldn’t be in their way at all as my ball bounces off of trees and splashes into one of the many ponds and creek tributaries that run throughout the entire course.

But don’t think for a minute that this is some standard chip and putt par 3 course. There’s a reason they were recognized as one of the 12 Top Par 3 Courses in the United States by Golf Range Magazine.  The course is a 9 hole layout with strategic traps on each hole.  This gives the golfer options in difficulty, and variety of play.

“The pros especially like this course for two reasons”, Majewski says. “Our main concepts during construction were length and placement.  And since then, we have focused on condition, condition, condition!”

Since 1988, only two people have broken par on their championship back tees. Here’s why: Hole 4 features a large rolling green 90 percent surrounded by water.

Spring Creek’s lounge offers hot and cold drinks and snacks.  Pro Shop sells clubs for all golfers, balls, bags, clothes and other golf merchandise.

“But if you’re hungry for a whole meal after 9 or 18 holes, you can walk right over to the Cold Spring Inn for a full menu meal,” he adds. “Then come back and do some putting or driving.  People can really come out and spend the day right here in Cold Spring.”
